STUART CHILDS: BRAND IDENTITY
(    Typography   Art Direction   Branding   Print    )

UNIT

Stuart Childs makes electronic things. For his identity it was less about a logo and more about custom typefaces. The typefaces would become his brand, they would appear on his products, instantly making you aware that these products were his.

Two typefaces were required, one for laser etching - the focus of this typeface was to be efficent in power output and speed. For this reason the font was output as a single stroke font, meaning it wasn't a filled path. This allowed the face to go down to tiny sizes as still be ledgible. The focus of the laser would determine the thickness of the line. The second face needed to be for laser cutting so was required to be a stencil font. Along with these requirements Stuart wanted the typefaces to look like they were from the same family and contemporary in style.
